A SUCCESSFUL playing season was reported when Evesham staged its annual general meeting.

"We are on the way up", declared club chairman, Peter Davidson. "Before too long, we will be back in the Birm-ingham League. We now have a team of which the town can be proud."

First eleven skipper Jon Gregory said the team had done well in the Worcester-shire League and, but for some ill-fortune in early games, would have earned promotion. He expected to strengthen the team before next season.

Simon Cadwallader was re-elected to the post of cricket manager, in charge of senior cricket.

"We are keen to recruit at all levels, not only top players for the first eleven, but also keen cricketers who will enjoy their game in the second and third elevens," he said.

John Barrett was elected as vice-chairman in charge of operations, while remaining as youth manager.

In his report, he said the club had an outstanding squad of junior players and a youth development programme of which the club should be proud, with success for the Under-12, 14 and 16 teams.

Such was the growth of the youth squads, he added, that more help was needed with coaching and from adult cricket organisers.

"Evesham is fortunate to have one the finest grounds in the area, but we must continue to invest in improving the facilities", reported the secretary, David Higginson, who was re-elected, and also appointed as second team captain.

A successful social season was also reflected on which involved friendly Sunday matches played by cricket The Henricians.

Gregory was re-elected as first team captain with Barry Clements, who will skipper the Sunday side, as vice-captain.
