TWO ponies at the BHS rehabilitation centre at Oxhill in Warwickshire are in tip-top condition and ready to be re-homed.

Gordon, a 13.2-hand six-year-old bay gelding, and Malibu, a 12-hand five-year-old chestnut mare, came to the centre about a year ago from a batch of six who had been badly neglected.

They were found in a barn in a dreadful state with no bedding, food or water.

Four have since recovered and found homes but Gordon and Malibu are still hoping for a taste of the good life, with a kind family willing to shower them with loads of TLC.

Yard manager of the centre, Zarra Lea said: "Gordon is an excellent jumper, sound in all aspects, and would suit a pony club home.

"Malibu is also a super pony but she's not a novice ride. She's perfectly safe but would be better as a child's second pony - ideal for a youngster with a bit of experience."

Zarra is urging parents with children looking for new mounts to pop into the centre to give Gordon and Malibu the chance of a good home first.

Oxhill, which caters for welfare cases where the animals have been badly treated, was officially opened by BHS president Princess Anne in March 1999.

It has first class facilities for up to 38 ponies and horses with 60 acres of grazing land. The welfare centre is not a retirement home for unwanted pets however, it rescues animals, rehabilitates them and then finds them suitable homes. It is also a charity that needs to raise cash to keep going.
