LOCAL honour is not the only thing at stake in Kidderminster Carolians' Midlands Three West (North) derby at home to Old Halesonians on Saturday.

On-song KCs lead the division by one point from Aston Old Edwardians and Dixonians, while Old Hales are struggling at the other end.

They both finished mid-table last season with the Marlpool Lane men losing 18-12 at home but winning 27-0 away.

KCs defeated them 11-9 in the Intermediate Cup and this season have the upper hand in the kicking department.

Andy Stooksbury (40) and Tom Oakes (29) are way out in front of the visitors' best kicker Steve Vaughan who has amassed 20 points.

KCs 2nds 19 Redditch A 7

A workmanlike display gave KCs seconds victory over a strong Redditch side.

Good line-out was won by Simon Northcott and was fed out for Andy Webber to add to his collection of fine tries this season.

Opposite wing Baz Turner scored another try with Iain Crockett converting.

Redditch fought back with a converted try just before half-time.

KCs defended, tackled and counter-attacked well in a second-half mid-pitch battle.

It paid dividends with John Mounter jinking in under the posts with Crockett converting.

There were good displays from Northcott, Mounter and James Whitehouse, last year's colt at full-back.

KCs 3rds 19 Redditch 3

The thirds ran out worthy winners in a well-contested game which featured some good running rugby.

Russell Slater and Ken Bickley caught the eye but Redditch led 3-0 at half-time through a drop goal.

KCs took command in the second half and scored three tries with the first a classic.

Martyn Wright made lots of ground before feeding Bickley and his pass put Slater in for the try. Bickley converted.

The second was scored by Stuart Royall and the third was a fine individual effort from Bickley who converted.

Fixtures, Saturday: KCs v Old Halesonians, 1sts and 3rds home, 2nds and 4ths away (kick-off 2.15pm).
