GOALKEEPER Ian Harvey was in outstanding form for Bewdley Town as they enjoyed an extra-time 3-1 West Midlands League Cup victory at Division One North leaders Great Wyrley.

Against hosts who had scored 14 goals in a league match the previous week, they were kept at bay by excellent defending from Duncan Taylor, John Lawley and Dave Harris.

But Harvey was called on to make an early save before the visitors took the lead on 27 minutes.

Lawley won a tackle and fed Paul Field whose through-ball was collected by Grant Gibbs and he rounded the keeper for a simple tap-in.

Wyrley replied immediately when Harvey punched clear only for Stewart Bradford to volley an unstoppable equaliser.

In the second half, Wyrley looked the most dangerous but any chances were swiftly dealt with by Harvey and his defenders.

Dale Evans was injured and replaced by Adrian Bennett, making his debut for the team.

Eight minutes into the first period of extra-time, Gibbs was pushed in the area and Matthew Allsopp scored the resulting penalty.

Wyrley applied a lot of pressure but Bewdley wrapped up the game with two minutes left when Gibbs made no mistake for his 15th goal of the season.

Adrian Passey replaced Allsopp and he was brought down by a defender who was red-carded.
