A FIRST-half goal avalanche put Kidderminster Hockey Club on the way to a 5-0 victory over Bloxwich to move into second place in DTZ League Midlands One.

The home side opened their account after just 10 minutes when Mark Bagley found the net, and before the interval Mark Wheeler, Mick Brazier and Richard Wheeler had added goals.

Kidderminster's final strike came from Chris Page towards the end.

The Kidderminster defence played well, with Simon Burkes, Neil Jackson and man-of-the-match Page solid.

Wednesbury 1

Kidderminster 2nd 1

Kidderminster played well in the first half but only scored once through Clive Link from a short-corner.

Wednesbury equalised in the opening minutes of the second half and although Kidderminster came back strongly in the last 10 minutes, they could not get the winner.

Paul Edwards was the man-of-the-match.

Kidderminster 3rd 2

Birmingham University 3

Kidderminster never came to terms with the pace and movement of their student opponents in this DTZ league fixture.

Although they dominated the first 20 minutes and went ahead thanks to Neil Furminger, the university side hit back and were 2-1 up at half time.

The second half was even but even though Mark Mansell equalised, the students never gave up and scored a late winner.

Cannock 3

Kidderminster 4th 2

This DTZ fixture was played at a fast pace and Cannock had the chance to take the lead after 20 minutes but a great save from Stuart Wharton denied them.

He had no chance two minutes later as Cannock took the lead but Neil Jarvie equalised early in the second half.

Cannock restored the lead before Darren Jackson levelled again but Cannock went ahead for a third time and this time held out.

Kidderminster 5th 2 Edgbaston 6th 5

In this top versus bottom clash, Edgbaston set a fast early pace and scored twice within 20 minutes.

Kidderminster refused to be overwhelmed and some good approach work resulted in a goal by Adam Crouch.

Before half-time the visitors scored two more goals but Danny Mazurak retaliated with a good goal for Kidderminster.

There were good debuts by two promising youngsters, Steve Elmer and Scott Edwards, who helped ensure the visitors only scored once in the second half.
