A STOLEN Land Rover is believed to have been deliberately driven at two police officers who were following the vehicle.

One officer had to leap from his police motorcycle to avoid being injured in the incident on Tuesday.

The green-coloured car was taken from St John Street car park in Bromsgrove, before being driven up Market Street and turning on to the town's Stourbridge Road at about 3.30pm.

It was at this point the vehicle reversed at a police motorcyclist and a marked Vauxhall Astra.

The two officers, one in the car and one on the motorcycle, avoided injury with the one managing to jump from his bike before it was hit.

The driver of the Land Rover abandoned the vehicle at The Crown pub on Stourbridge Road, where a red coloured N-reg Suzuki Baleno, was believed to be waiting in the car park.

He then escaped with the other male offender in the Suzuki. The Land Rover is now being forensically examined.

The two then drove off towards Lydiate Ash, going round a traffic island the wrong way and heading up the M5 northbound carriageway, before leaving the motorway at Junction 1 Frankley Services.

They then headed towards Halesowen, where officers lost sight of the vehicle. The force helicopter was also drafted in to search.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or anyone who has seen this car to contact them on 01527 584888 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
