STONE Cricket Club gave new life-member Fred Buxton a standing ovation at the annual dinner.

The club stalwart was honoured for his outstanding efforts over 10 years.

Batsman Dean Aldridge was named as the players' player of the year after being the season's top run-scorer.

Leading wicket-taker Pete Durnell was runner-up.

Gareth Bryant lifted The Hartlebury Cup for the performance of the year thanks to his terrific 78 runs and three stunning catches in the last, and potentially crucial, league game of the season against Hanley Castle and Upton.

Other great displays were Rob Smith's best-ever league bowling figures of 8-22 and six excellent centuries during a successful season.

Scorer Dave Tyrrell was given a special contribution award for his support during the year.

The club has a new chairman after Pete Guy decided to stand down from the role with Chris Bryant taking over.

Gary Bourke will continue as Saturday skipper after marshalling his troops to second place in Worcestershire County League Division Five.

Seasoned campaigner Don Aldridge will remain captain of the Sunday team after another good year at the helm.
