AFTER a lifetime of moving around the world, diamond couple Frank and Doris Barrington are staying put in their adopted home of Worcester.

Doris and Frank celebrate 60 years of marriage today, during which time they have lived all over England, as well as in India and Egypt.

Frank, aged 85, spent 32 years in the Royal Air Force - a career that would lead to his meeting the then 17-year-old Doris at an air show, in Northolt, West London.

"There was a flying display day on at Northolt aerodrome and I was living at Ruislip at the time," said Doris, who is 79 today.

"It was a local event so I went. Frank was stationed at the records office in Ruislip, where he was working as an accounts clerk, so you could say the war threw us together."

The couple met again soon afterwards at a dance and were married two years later, on Doris's 19th birthday, at St Martin's Church, Ruislip.

There was no honeymoon and no cake - "it was all rationing and coupons in those days" - and the bride wore a pink velvet dress.

"You couldn't get the clothes! And the neighbours clubbed together to give us a small reception at home," said Doris.

The couple moved to Worcester 15 years ago to be closer to their daughter, Diane, who lives in Cheltenham. They also have three sons.

They already knew the area, as one son, Geoffrey, had attended The King's School for five years.

"We always liked it very much," said Doris.

"It's a beautiful city and the friendliness of the people has been very good. And I've enjoyed the shops very much, after living on RAF camps for so many years!"

The couple, who have seven grandchildren and four-great-grandchildren, celebrated their wedding anniversary with a lunch at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Saturday, attended by family and friends.

They were due to hold an "open house" for friends and neighbours today at home in Dinmore Close, St Peter's, followed by "a quiet day" after their visitors had gone.
