Evesham 2, Aldridge 1

A SUPERB save from Nicholas in the dying minutes helped Evesham record their first win of the West Midlands Premier League campaign after three draws and three defeats.

It was no more than the hosts deserved but they were almost made to pay for their failure to find the net from excellent positions.

Chances were created early in the game as Evesham appeared sharper after their week's break but they were caught on the break and an Aldridge striker found the net.

The home side didn't let the goal affect them and produced some slick passing play as they sought a swift response.

It needed a short corner move to finally breach the visitors' defence when Husbands found the net with a calm strike of the stick.

The pressure continued towards the Aldridge goal after the restart but again Evesham failed to make their possession count.

Player of the match Dufty had to be on his best form in the home defence to ensure any counter attacks were thwarted and his efforts were rewarded when Evesham grabbed the winner.

Hard work from Bearcroft and Massingham helped create a second goal for Husbands that proved to be the clincher although Nicholas's heroics late on ensured home celebrations at the seventh time of asking.

The same number of outings has still to bring Pershore victory in Division One. Their latest match ended in a 7-2 defeat at Rugeley.
