A BEWDLEY man has won a place on the Liberal Democrats' Federal Executive - the first West Midlander ever to have been elected to the body.
Jock Gallagher, of Home Barn, Ribbesford, will join the 14 other members of the top management group in January after his election to the post by party representatives at their national conference.
"I'm delighted to be so centrally involved in establishing the Lib Dems as the real opposition," he said.
Mr Gallagher was the Liberal Democrat candidate for the European Parliamentary seat of Herefordshire and Shropshire incorporating Wyre Forest in 1994 and the Westminster seat of Birmingham Edgbaston in 1997.
He is vice chairman of Kidderminster College.
