AFTER an excellent lunch on Wednesday, November 14, speaker Rachel Newitt demonstrated Desserts for Christmas Day.

Rachel, who is a local girl, now lives in Kings Coughton.

Now married with two children and working part time as a secretary for her husband, her career as a baker and confectioner started at Mitchels Bakers in Stratford at the age of 16.

She also worked at Whiteheads, an Alcester bakery that is sadly no longer there.

She showed how to make a lemon syllabub and an exotic pineapple sweet which also contained cream, passion fruit and cherries.

Rachel brought along two boxes of sweets which included rum truffles, marzipan and date assortment.

These were later raffled and the winners were Marjorie Spencer and Margaret James.

The next meeting on Wednesday, December 12 is the Christmas buffet and members were reminded that there will be a bring and buy sale at the January meeting.
