MEET Bromsgrove's answer to Stuart Pearce, Tony Adams and Lothar Matthaus.

Garringtons Sunday's Paul Hutchins is the man in question, still going strong after 24 years in local football.

The 39-year-old has been the mainstay of the Sunday league side for 19 years and has the trophies to prove it.

He joined the club as a right-winger at the tender age of 20 from Charford FC.

But the BBC cameraman, who also manages junior side Meadow Park Under-13s, was soon moulded into a full-back and now plies his trade as sweeper.

Playing in the Redditch and South Warwickshire Combination League Premier Division, Garringtons stormed to a record ten league championships with Hutchins in the side.

He said: "It's been a great club to play for. We won the league last season without really playing well."

Paul helped the club win the Worcester Junior Cup six times, the Premier Cup, the Terry Cup nine times, the Redditch United Cup, the Keith Turner Memorial Trophy and the Bromsgrove Charity Cup six years in a row.

Along the way he picked up his share of player of the year and players' player of the year awards - he was the first person to win both awards in the same season.

Hutchins enjoyed a great season with Bromsgrove Rovers under Bobby Hope in 1991 when the club had a good run in the FA Cup.

Sadly, work commitments cut short his spell with the Greens.

Paul concentrated on Sunday football with Garringtons and played with the likes of former Rovers greats John Dyer, Chris Hanks, Mark Crisp, Stewart Brighton, John Gayle and Shaun O'Meara.

"I've played with some fantastic players over the years," he said.

It was at the tail end of last season when Paul overtook O'Meara for matches played - he has reached more than 450 games for Garringtons - a fantastic achievement at any level of football.

He now has the record set by Anthony Costello in his sights, providing he keeps on playing.

Paul said: "I've hardly missed a game.

"I've been very lucky with injuries but I train hard to keep fit.

"As long as I don't start getting skinned by these youngsters then I'll keep on going because I'm still enjoying it."
