A HARD-working Studley man who has committed the past few years to campaigning for a new village hall has had his efforts recognised by the parish council, writes Julian Seva.

Denis Charlton, of Highfield Road, has been awarded the parish council Jubilee Shield Award 2001 for his work as honorary secretary of Studley Village Hall Management Committee.

Parish clerk Dot Mitchell said Mr Charlton well deserved the shield for his tireless campaigning to secure lottery funding for a new village hall to replace the ageing one in High Street.

Mr Charlton said he was 'pleased and flattered' to receive the award but added the hard work of his committee and himself must continue.

The committee is now raising cash to furnish the hall and has already held slide shows, a harvest supper, bingo nights and other entertainment to boost the coffers.
