DEAR EDITOR -- Might it be possible to persuade the shops, fast food outlets etc in the area to embrace a gentle and well meant code of conduct which might perhaps include for example the provision of adequate litter bins on their frontage, and systematically emptying them well before they
overflow and every time before closing.
Sweeping their fronts from time to
time would also be a nice gesture.
I really can't see why local residents should be the repository for the commercial detritus of the local general store, who often, it would appear to me, prefer to wait for the periodic visits of the hard pressed and hard working street cleaner than provide or empty their bins or, heaven forbid, lift a broom for themselves from time to
time.
This is not the complete answer obviously, but it has got to help.
I am confident the council could be persuaded to provide window stickers
proclaiming their association with a group committed to good house keeping
and concern for the public interest.
