A Redditch man who pointed a pistol at his former girlfriend's window after she ditched him has been jailed for three months.

Gary Ponter terrified Leanne Malin by his actions and threw stones at her home, Worcester Crown Court heard.

As police led him away he shouted at her that she had 'grassed him up', said prosecutor Brett Stevenson.

She was so scared that she was planning to move from the area, he added.

Ponter, aged 21, of Lingen Close, Winyates West, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Miss Malin thought the defendant had taken the break-up well but on July 16 he drove to her home with two other men, said Mr Stevenson.

She saw him point the repeater pistol at her window and then heard noises as stones hit the glass.

Ponter had previous convictions for disorderly behaviour and handling stolen goods.

Defence counsel William Rickarby said Ponter did not discharge the weapon which was a low-powered firearm.

He found it difficult to deal with the break-up of his relationship due to emotional immaturity.

Mr Rickarby said he had run up debts of £3,100 to a bank after his bank card was stolen and used by the thief.

Recorder Christopher Murray told Ponter: "You pointed the pistol at the victim intending to scare her - and scare her you did."

He said the defendant had spurned earlier chances given to him by the courts to avoid custodial sentences.
