AS a resident of Stanley Road, Worcester, I am writing to highlight the problems we face on a daily basis from drivers using our road as a rat run.

This evening (Wednesday, November 21) my wife was very nearly hit by a motorist trying to escape the traffic congestion in the city centre.

She was in the process of lifting our three-year-old daughter from her car seat when the motorist sped down our road and had to brake hard to avoid them both.

He then proceeded to wind his window down and abuse us both verbally, stating that it was our fault the incident occurred.

When are we as residents to be protected from these idiots by the building of speed bumps and the introduction of a mandatory 20mph speed limit?

I find it hard to believe that if this problem were occurring in a more affluent area like Warndon villages it would take so long to resolve.

Is it that we who live in more "deprived" areas do not matter to this council?

It is beginning to feel that this may be the case! All residents received a questionnaire some time ago relating to the plans, but to my knowledge, no timetable has been set for the work to start, if it is to start at all!

As the road contains two schools, a community centre and a large residential home that houses the mentally ill, please can we have some action before someone gets killed.

MARC GRIFFITHS,

Stanley Road, Worcester.
