FLOODING misery for Catshill's Green Lane residents could soon come to an end after prevention plans were drawn up -- they also include creating a wildlife corridor.

A series of self-draining balancing ponds are proposed to help restrict the flow of water coming off the Lickey Hills as it makes its way along the stream which runs between the main A38 and Green Lane.

Bromsgrove District Council leader Cllr Nick Psirides (Con, Norton) said: "This long standing problem has been brought to a head by the recent exceptional rainfalls.

"We are going to do our best to resolve it.

"The proposals relate to the first phase of works which, if agreed, will begin early in the New Year."

Householders are being invited to inspect the proposals at The Council House, in Burcot Lane, or at a meeting in Catshill Village Hall, off Golden Cross Lane, next Monday, December 3, at 7pm.

Head of technical services, John Moody, said: "There has been localised flooding caused due to the watercourse overflowing its banks and culverts.

"A hydraulic study and landscape scheme has been carried out to come up with a solution to contain the flow of water during stormy conditions.

"There will be up to six pools sited in the recreation area, north of Green Lane alongside the stream, as it passes through council-owned land."

Letters and copies of the plan have been sent to residents for their comments.

An option on all or a series of ponds is to be considered.
