FIVE people, including a Bromsgrove family, were taken to hospital following a serious road crash in Bromsgrove on Saturday night.

Police have this week issued an appeal for witnesses to the accident which happened at around 7.25pm on the A38 bypass near the junction with New Road.

Two people were still in hospital as the Advertiser/Messenger went to press after a silver coloured Peugeot 206, travelling southbound, was in collision with a bronze Renault Clio travelling in the opposite direction.

Firefighters had to free both women drivers, who were later taken to Redditch's Alexandra Hospital.

The Clio driver, a 40-year-old Bromsgrove woman, suffered head injuries, a broken foot and ribs. Her condition is described as "making good progress."

Her 46-year-old husband, who suffered broken fingers, cuts and concussion, was treated and discharged from the Alex.

Their 12-year-old son was taken to the Alex before being transferred to Diana, Princess of Wales Children's Hospital, Birmingham, with a minor head injury, and later discharged.

His nine-year-old sister suffered seat belt injuries and was treated and discharged from hospital.

The driver of the Peugeot has a broken pelvis, head injuries and suspected internal injuries. He is said to be "comfortable."

Anyone who witnessed the collision, should call PC Eddie Mills on (01527) 584888.
