THREE students and their teacher will be flying high this weekend when they take the plunge in a parachute jump to raise money for a school in The Gambia.

Students Abi Crewe, Jo Gurney and Sam Kendall, from North Bromsgrove High school in School Drive, will be facing their fears and jumping 2,200 feet in a single parachute jump to raise much-needed cash for Armitage Senior School in The Gambia.

The two schools have forged strong links over the past 12 years and earlier this month North held a 'Big Brother' style fundraiser, which raised further funds for the cause.

The three students and their Geography teacher, Ben Ward, have been sponsored by friends and family to take part in the jump, which will take place in Banbury on Sunday.

The Nailers Arms Bar and Restaurant in Bournheath and The Lions Club have put forward £130 each to sponsor two of the jumpers for the event.

Speaking this week to the Advertiser/Messenger, Abi said she was nervous but looking forward to the challenge.

"I'm a bit nervous but I think I will be worse when I'm actually in the plane and getting ready to jump out.

"The whole thing will be worth it, knowing that we have raised more than £700 between us for the event."

Mike Carrick from Upton Warren, a former teacher at the school who originally began the link, will travel to The Gambia on Friday to reinforce the strong links between the two schools.

He was set to be joined by 18 students and three teachers from North, but due to the current international situation the trip was cancelled.
