THE Starlets Veterans were out in force on Tuesday with 37 members turning out for their Wines and Spirits event on Moorlands Farm's Meadow Pool and it was Brian Hill (Stourport) who took home an armful of bottles for his winning catch of eight carp for 31-0-0 taken with waggler and maggots from peg 59.

Husband and wife duo Reg and Doreen Putnam (Quinton) took second and third places with Doreen catching 26-14-0 to Reg's 16-12-0.

A close result was recorded at the Woodlands View Tuesday Affordable Open with Dave Hobbs (Stourbridge Loco) taking the verdict by waggler fishing corn at High Pool peg 29 for 44-15-0, runner-up David James (Lifestyle) had 44-14-0 from opposite peg 13, third Denis Whitehouse (West End) 36-10-0.

Wednesday's Woodlands View Deans Pool Open was won by Paul Downes (MAP Starlets) by pole fishing bloodworm and joker at peg 9 for a 24-1-0 catch of roach and skimmers.

His team-mate Rob Gandley fished same style for second place with 22-2-0, third John Knight (Willow Creek) 17-8-0.

At Astwood Fishery, the Bluebell Pool Open was won by Birmingham's Adrian Niblett (Weoley Castle WMC) by pole fishing maggots at 13 metres from peg 15 for 44-12-0, second placed Mark Roberson (DAC Mosella) had 19-8-0, third Paul Webley (Kateshill AC) 9-5-0.

Moorlands Farms Meadow Pool Open saw Paul Rowberry (Severn Trent) alternate pole and waggler with corn at peg nine for a top catch 51-6-0, second Alan Higgs (CSM) 48-7-0, third Dave Ashington (Moorlands) 37-5-0.

Thursday's Costcutter Special Open was also held on the Meadow Pool with Mark Moseley (Wassell Grove) taking an impressive ton up catch of 101-15-0 with pole and corn from peg 42.

David James (Lifestyle) was second with 76-4-0, third Alan Higgs (CSM) 40-8-0.

Over on Moorlands Silverfish pool, the Starlets Veterans held their Thursday contest which saw John Osman (Northfield) pole fish chopped worms at peg 36 for some quality roach weighing in at 12-8-0, runner-up Brian Hill (Stourport) had 10-1-0, third Clive Humphries (Bewdley) 9-12-0.

On to Friday for the Moorlands Farm Costcutter Open with David James (Lifestyle) crossing the winning line with a pole and corn catch of 60-10-0 from peg 59 on the Meadow Pool. The Newton brothers took second and third places, Jon (FAPS) had 45-8-0 and Chris (Redditch) 21-7-0.

Saturday saw Telfish AC fish their Committee Cup and Knockout Final on the Worcester-Birmingham Canal at Astwood Flights.

Top place went to Birmingham angler Don Perks who was staked above the lock-keeper's cottage where he pole fished the far bank for a bonus three pound bream plus perch for a 4-13-0 total while second place went to Graham Upton with 3-4-8.

Third was yours truly, Tony Brunn, with 2-10-0 which also gave me the club's aggregate cup with a five-match points tally of 17. The KO Cup also came my way beating John Mallin who had a 1-0-0 catch.

At Woodlands View, the Arles and Deans Pool Open was won by Mike Smith (Slapheads) who pole fished bloodworm and joker at Arles Pool peg 34 for a mixed 31-11-0 catch, second Alistair Chisholm (DGL) 27-12-0, third Paul Jarram (DGL) 24-10-0.

The fourth round of the Moorlands Farm Winter League saw Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) take the top individual honours by waggler fishing corn at meadow peg 58 for 88-9-0, Barry Gannon (Fosters) followed with 75-13-0, third Tony Holmes (Slapheads) 72-6-0.

Top team were Celtic Rooney's with 55 points, Slapheads 51, Shakespeare 47. Fosters Elite lead the league with 53, team Wesson 52 and Lifestyle VDE Blue 50.

The Geers Groundbait Open at Earlswood was fished on the Stratford Canal with Carl Lee-Hops (Redditch) showing the way at peg 105 by the Bluebell Pub for a perch and roach catch of 4-7-8, second Steve Pearce (Dams and Lock) 3-10-2, third Albert Pearce (Lamb AC) 2-14-11.

Astwood Fisheries Bluebell Pool Open was won by Kevin Crowley (Austin SS) with 29-1-0 of carp taken with pole and maggots from peg seven, second Brian Goodchild (Austin SS) 13-14-0, third Derek Clarke (Astwood) 13-6-0.

Kings Norton AS were on club waters on the River Alne, at Kinwarton, for round two of their winter league with West Heath matchman Richard Goban in good form.

He pole fished maggots at peg one for 3-3-0 of roach, club secretary Alan Crowton was second with 2-9-0, third John Walker 2-2-8.

Rob Brennan headed a close result at the Woodlands View Deans Pool Open by pole fishing blood and joker at peg 60.

The MAP Starlets team member had to put all his skills to the test to tame a seven-pound carp on light tackle to boost his silver fish catch to 28-13-0. Runner-up Alan Jones (DGL) had 27-7-0, third Derek Hammond (Oxford Drennan) 26-7-0.

Good catches were taken at the Moorlands Farm Bank and Moors Pool Open. Fosters MG recorded a one, two, three with Mick Henshall alternating pole and waggler with corn at bank peg 23 for a top catch of 87-14-0. Second was Lee Richards (Fosters MG) with 64-6-0 and Chris Hill was third with 63-3-0.
