KINGS Norton suffered an up and down weekend in the North Midlands Shield.

The Midlands Four West South side beat North Midlands Three strugglers Greyhound 11-7 in the preliminary round on Saturday but crashed out in round one the day after, losing 8-6 to North Midlands Two high fliers Birmingham Civil Service.

And captain Mark Waudby, ruled out at the weekend along with a number of regulars, is set to be missing for the next two matches because of work commitments.

Vice captain John Hefford is set to lead the side out at Ledbury on Saturday (ko 2.30pm) and at home to Dunlop the following week.

Player-coach Rory McLean is set to figure after a leg injury, and his return is a timely boost as the Hopwood side take on two sides near them in the table in games which could lift them out of the bottom two, and stave of the threat of a second successive relegation.
