ALCESTER captain Alan Williams insisted the Warwickshire Shield was not a priority for the Warwick-shire One outfit in the wake of Sunday's opening round defeat at the hands of Spartans.
The Kings Coughton side crashed out 28-5 to their league rivals but their skipper, who was unavailable said the club had fielded a weakened side.
Back row Williams, fly half Matt Gwynn, scrum half Robbie Parker, centre Chris Hall, prop John Squires and hooker Dicky Moore were all absent as Alcester lost out to a side in fifth place, and immediately below them, in the league.
The cup absentees are all expected to return when Alcester's title credentials are examined by second placed Shipston on Saturday (ko 2.30pm).
The visitors have lost only once in the league this season and are four points above Alcester but Williams is confident.
