PLANS by Tesco to erect a huge marquee to increase its sales space in the run-up to Christmas have been blocked by Redditch Council.
The company wanted to put the 481 sq m tent up in its car park in Coldfield Drive, Oakenshaw, but also wanted to turn a landscaped piece of land into 30 car park spaces.
In August, part of the store went up in flames, forcing it to close it for weeks.
Council officers recommended the application be refused, citing the Town Centres and Country Structure Plan policy, which supports town centre retailing.
