ON a visit to Redditch from Bolton last Tuesday, I parked my car in the car park adjacent to a pub in Headless Cross while I called at one of the shops opposite.

I was horrified on my return to find two men with a white van fitting a clamp to the front wheel of my car who then demanded £94 to remove it.

As an old age pensioner, this cost me more than a week's pension for what took them a few minutes' work.

It reminded me of the days when highwaymen preyed on innocent travellers by the use of force and intimidation.

In answer to my protests, they said the act was justified because the land was private but there were no obvious signs to say this was the case or that clamping would be carried out.
