A BRAVE pensioner clung on to her handbag as a man tried to grab it from her in her own garden.

The 78-year-old woman was at home in Worcester when the robber struck in the attack during daylight.

The woman struggled so hard she received injuries to her hand and had to be taken to Ronkswood Hospital for treatment.

After attempting to steal her bag, the man ran off towards Pitmaston Road, St John's, where he was then seen to climb into a red-coloured vehicle, which was being driven by another man.

The incident took place in Middle Road, St John's, at about 12.20pm on Saturday.

"We don't know if she was in her front or back garden but she received injuries as a result of the struggle," said a spokeswoman for Worcester police.

The man is described as white, in his late 20s, 5ft 10in tall, with thinning ginger-coloured hair.

He was wearing a light-coloured anorak and was softly spoken with an Irish accent.
