A MALVERN woman has been appointed as director of the Elgar Birthplace Museum.

Catherine Sloan has been given the position, and will take up her new post this Saturday, December 1.

Ms Sloan is currently museum services manager at the site, and has worked at the museum for more than four years.

She played a major role in preparing the Birthplace Museum for reopening in August 2000, and manages its day-to-day operation, temporary exhibitions and a wide range of special events.

She is being made director following the departure of Melanie Weatherley, who is leaving to take up a new position at Ironbridge Gorge Museum, Shropshire.

Activities

"I have really enjoyed seeing the activities of the museum develop and flourish, particularly over the past 15 months since the opening of the Elgar Centre has increased our scope so much," said Ms Sloan.

"I'm looking forward to using my curatorial skills, making this fascinating collection available to both visitors and expert scholars, and conserving it for future generations."
