David Thomas of Worcester Sea Cadets returned from the Inter-Services Cadet Swimming Championships at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire, with gold medals in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 100m individual Medley.
He beat off strong opposition, especially from the Air Training Corps, and won in comfort.
He just missed out on a fourth gold in the 4x2 medley relay. He swam the first backstroke leg to give his team a strong lead, but they were pipped at the post by the ATC team.
The championships were the climax of David's Cadet season which saw him swimming at Hereford, HMS Raleigh (Plymouth) and HMS Caledonian (Edinburgh). He won 15 gold medals and was unbeaten throughout the year.
