EVESHAM United will come up against Matt Gardiner when they play Hednesford Town in the first round of the Dr Martens League Cup tonight (7.45).

The defender was briefly on the Robins' books earlier in the season after leaving Worcester City before signing for Hereford United, who he left last week.

Manager Phil Mullen is expecting to name an unchanged side from the one that beat Bloxwich United 3-0 at the weekend including a double from Andrew Hodgets.

The goals were a boost to the striker after a season interrupted by injury and returning to action too soon.

"He was out for six weeks then was brought back probably a bit earlier than we would have liked due to personnel problems so it was good to see him on the scoresheet," said Mullen.

The Robins' boss admits he is not worried about cup competitions this season but wants to win tonight to build on Saturday's showing.

"The cup's not really important but its good to pit ourselves against a team from a higher division," he added.

"If we're out of the cup competitions by Christmas but get promoted then I won't be too worried."
