Pershore will soon be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the adoption of a warship.

The town will mark 60 years since its first Warship Week - held from Saturday, November 14, 1941, when the destroyer HMS Scimitar was adopted.

The anniversary is being marked by acquiring a picture of Captain Robert Franks, CBE DSO DSC, who was in command of the ship between February 1940 and July 1942.

His picture will hang in Belle House, headquarters of the town council, and will be moved to the new town hall next year.

An exhibition on HMS Scimitar is on display in the Pershore Heritage Centre, which is currently shut for the winter.
