JOHN Brain has made it clear to his Worcester Rugby Club stars before tomorrow's clash with Bracknell - perform or you're out.

The Sixways chief takes control of the first match back at Sixways (3pm) since the debilitating 31-23 defeat by Coventry last month and is in no mood for anymore slip ups in their Premiership promotion bid.

Big name players were brought into the club during the summer but Brain will not be afraid to wield the axe if his players do not perform on Sunday.

"The pressure is on them as individuals to perform," he said. "Otherwise they face non-selection for the games that are coming up.

"We've all got to do what's best for the team and for the club, that is the bottom line. That is solely my motive -- there is nothing personal in my decisions, they are simply based on what I feel is the best team.

"Personalities don't ever come into it for me. I look at facts and you make decisions on what you feel will be best for the team for certain matches. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you get it wrong."

Brain made six changes to his victorious team at Otley for Worcester's team at Moseley last weekend and all made telling contributions to a 50-3 victory. He now faces a selection dilemma, particularly within the forwards.

"The forwards have always been an area of contention," he added. "We have quite a few players of similar ability and there is a fine margin between a lot of the players in the front, second and back row," said Brian.

"For me, it's about getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of these players and trying to put the right combinations together.

"We now have a lot of competition for places and that's obviously good because you can keep people on their toes. I don't think anyone in the forward pack are guaranteed selection and that goes for Ben Clarke as much as anyone else."

And with a long National League Division One season ahead, Brain is keen to stress Worcester must take up a different mentality if they are to succeed this season.

"The old mentality of Worcester is that you are in or you are axed," he explained. "That is not my mentality. We didn't pick a second string side against Moseley, we picked a strong team.

"OK you leave out what some people perceive as big names but for me, the side was good enough to beat Moseley.

"What I want to develop is a squad mentality here. To do well you need 25 first choice players and we're not far off that."
