MALVERN Town Wanderers travelled to second-placed Ombersley Colts in their latest Mercian Elgar U13's League game.

OMBERSLEY COLTS 0, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 2

Wanderers started the strongest, playing probably their best football of the campaign and broke the deadlock ten minutes into the first period as Zac Blood finished decisively from six yards ending fine build up play. Ten minutes later Rob Leccese made it two finishing from close range.

The Wanderers defence of Luke Arnold, Matt Bayer and Craig Richards kept keeper Ashley Bennett redundant for the entire game.

The second half saw the visitors dominate the game but they could not score due to the fine display by the Ombersley keeper.

A fine resolute all-round team performance, which keeps Wanderers league situation well positioned, means man of the match was shared.

WELLAND JUNIORS 4, BROCKHAMPTON 1

THIS Mercian Elgar Junior U13 game was played in glorious autumn sunshine and once again Welland raised their game against the side that finished third last season.

Welland had won at Brockhampton four weeks ago and the visitors were keen to avenge that defeat. The game started fairly evenly until after a scramble Josh Kirby opened the scoring for Welland.

Welland made two changes at the break bringing on Martyn Smith and, making his debut, Gareth Atkinson and they both soon made their mark but not before Josh Kirby added his second from a fine cross from Russell Alderson. This goal spurred Brockhampton into action and after several good attacks Dan Owen scored.

For a few minutes it seemed the game was hanging in the balance but after good passing between Josh Brentnall and Richard Pitt the clinching goal was scored by Martyn Smith. Five minutes later an excellent run by Andrew Smith was halted and the loose ball was put away by Gareth Atkinson to complete the scoring.

The man of the match, which was sponsored this week by Financial Advice Centre, was Andrew Smith.

NEWTOWN SPORTS BOYS 1, KAY BROADHEATH 0

NEWTOWN played hosts to Kay Broadheath in their first game for a few weeks in the Mercian Elgar Under 11's Junior League.

Both teams started well, Kays, a well organised team, were straight onto the attack but defenders James Crane and James Scullion were in fine form. Newtown had the first real opportunity when Lee Mason hit a square ball through the midfield for Ollie Lean who made a great run down the right, his shot rebounding off the crossbar. Shortly after the crossbar also denied Lee Mason when he tried to chip the keeper.

After the break both teams played some good passing football but it was Newtown's Marc Twinberrow who hit the winner when he latched onto a through ball from Ollie Lean to fire the ball past the advancing keeper.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS 1, LYPPARD RANGERS JUNIORS 3

NEWTOWN played hosts to Lyppard in this Mercian Elgar U11's League game and although losing, produced some of their best football.

Juniors started well and within minutes Lee Gittins forced a fine save out of the Lyppard goalkeeper. At the other end Lyppard forced a corner and a powerful header gave the visitors the lead. With Juniors pushing for an equaliser Lyppard caught them on the counter attack and Chris Spicer in goal was unlucky not to save a powerful shot for 2-0.

The second half saw Newtown start strongly and from a free kick Craig Preece struck the crossbar only for it to bounce back out off the line and be cleared. Josh Butler was put through but the Lyppard keeper made a good diving save to his left then against the run of play Lyppard made it 3-0. Juniors kept attacking and Dan Robinson's shot went close but they finally got their consolation goal when Craig Preece put James McCann through to score from close in.

Man of the match was Craig Preece.

DROITWICH TIGERS 0, NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U11s 6

IN their first league game for four weeks, the Colts were always in control away to Droitwich.

Tom Hale opened the scoring almost straight from the kick-off as he powered his way through the middle of the Tigers defence. Midfielders, James Gath and Jamie Caffull found plenty of spaces and created numerous scoring chances, but it wasn't until Baz Edwards and Wesley Powell came on that the Colts increased their lead, with Powell getting a quick brace and Hale adding to his tally shortly before half-time.

In the second half, the pattern of the game continued although the Tigers did create one or two chances but keeper David Rowley made some important saves when needed.

Jamie Caffull grabbed a fifth goal midway through the half and Jacob Buckle finished off the scoring near the end to register the Cotteswold Dairies sponsored Colts biggest win of the season.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 8, LYPPARD RANGERS BOYS 1

HAT tricks from Alex Wren and Douglas Howie and two goals from Josh Asquith sealed victory for Malvern Town Wanderers in this Mercian Elgar Under 10's Junior League match on Saturday.

The deadlock was broken by a deft header from Alex Wren early in the first half. Lyppard responded immediately to end keeper Ben Wheeler's impressive record of five matches without conceding a goal this season. Douglas Howie restored Malvern's lead and further goals from Josh Asquith and Douglas Howie extended the home team's advantage to 4-1 at half time.

After the interval the hard work and influence of Bobs Mackichan and Adam Mayo began to pay dividends and produced further goals for Alex Wren (two) and one each for Douglas Howie and Josh Asquith.

BROCKHAMPTON BADGERS 0, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS 6

A FINE all round team effort from Wanderers earned them their best result of the season so far in the Mercian Elgar U10's Junior League.

After a spirited start from both sides Wanderers opened the scoring with a Max Whittle shot into the top of the net after a super through pass from Alex Scullion. Another goal followed soon after when a long free kick from Matt Downes was guided into the net by Jack Daniels. Two more goals gave Wanderers a good lead and Max Whittle his hat-trick.

Brockhampton opened the second half with more determined attacks but staunch defending from Chris Webb and solid goal keeping from Alex Bakothanasis kept them at bay. Accurate passing from Wanderers led to a well taken close range goal from Alex Scullion. The final goal was a well struck shot from Matt Downes from the edge of the Badgers' goal area.

MARTLEY SPURS 0, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 5

WANDERERS began this Mercian Elgar U9 League match confidently and they took the lead when a fine pass by Jordan Johnson put Harry Gregory through to score.

Minutes later the favour was returned when Harry's excellent cross gave Jordan a simple tap-in to double Wanderers lead. Tom Dunn's determined play down the left wing paid off when he cut inside and released a powerful shot to take Wanderers into the break leading 3-0.

In the second half Wanderers super-sub Adam Green scored a great goal with only his second touch! Harry Gregory then scored a brilliant long-range goal as Wanderers won 5-0.

Man of the match was Alex Stockwell.
