THE war dead will be honoured on Sunday at Remembrance Day services and parades in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Members of the Royal British Legion and other ex-service organisations, together with civic representatives and community organisations will be taking part.

People who fought in the two World Wars are increasingly being joined by those from more recent conflicts, which the RBL is trying to address through its membership and continue its work into the 21st Century.

Joe Carter, who served with the Royal Signals in the 1950s, is secretary of the Hanley Castle, Welland and Castlemorton branch.

"The Legion was formed 80 years ago, but it is still very relevant today," he said.

"It looks after ex-servicemen who have served in Northern Ireland, Korea, the Falklands and who is to say it won't be needed after the war in Afghanistan.

"We need more members across the country to help raise funds and there's a lot more to get involved in than that, there's a really good social side to it as well."

More information on the RBL is available from the county office for Herefordshire and Worcestershire on 01905 29614.
