POLICE are warning people to review security in their homes in an attempt to stop burglars taking advantage of the dark nights.

The move, which comes after the clocks went back at the weekend, will mean dusk starts at 4pm and a police spokesman said homes may be left vulnerable.

People are urged to ensure overgrown bushes are cut back to prevent burglars hiding in them and to invest in security lights.

Installing timer switches so homes look occupied, securing good locks and door chains are also necessary precautions to take against break-ins.
