YOUNGSTERS letting off fireworks in the town centre has prompted about 40 complaints to police in just over two weeks.

The number of complaints has exceeded previous years and police have since been in touch with retailers and stockists of fireworks.

Town centre beat manager Pc Robin White said callers were concerned about the danger fireworks posed to people.

Pc White said shopkeepers failing to comply with the law would face prosecution and could lose their licence.

Youngsters have also been approached and informed if they let off fireworks in the town centre causing a danger and a nuisance, they are also committing a crime and could face prosecution.
