IT has been very interesting, reading the Evening News, the letters from Councillor David Barlow and Councillor Paul Denham, on their analysis on how Labour lost control at the last city council elections.

Arrogance, Councillor Barlow. Arrogance and contempt for the electorate at large, and your impressions of "I know what is best for 'em attitude.

Colin Layland's letter, stating, that if "a cardboard cut out of Mickey Mouse was put in Councillor Barlow's ward " was not strictly factual. The true statement, made by a former Labour Councillor seeking election in St Barnabas Ward - and I was standing next to him when he said it, at a Labour group meeting - was as follows.

"I shall be all right, you could put a monkey up for election in St Barnabas ward, dress it in Labour colours and he would be voted in."

That statement, although the councillor who said it, has long gone, has no way been proved otherwise. To add foundation to this Councillor Barlow, and you Councillor Denham, just take a walk around your ward, without any Labour colours, and find out for yourselves if the ones who voted for you know who you are. They voted Labour, but for who? It should be very interesting indeed.

Councillor Barlow repeatedly mentions how they are fighting to provide skips at certain sites around Worcester. Tell me, Councillor Barlow, who had them removed in the first place? Who introduced a standing charge for the collection of bulky items?

This was a service that had been free on a Saturday morning for years. Who was the expert, who agreed for the storage of toxic waste at Warndon? "It is quite safe," was your knowledgeable reply. How did you acquire such knowledge?

Just arrogance, Councillor Barlow. Cripplegate Park, arrogance yet again. There were thousands of signatures from the people of Worcester on those petitions handed in at the Guildhall, against selling off Cripplegate Park, but you just brushed them aside, you knew best. I was there, so I do not have to remind you of what you said.

There is no mystery why Labour lost control last May. You lost it. Like the Evening News headline said at the time - "You've been Banjoed."

FRANK POOLE,

Former City Councillor.

Worcester.
