SLOPPY soil tippers transporting earth from British Leyland's new computer centre site at Redditch have been told 'pull your socks up' after police intervened.

British Leyland intervened this week after complaints flooded police and town councillors about a trail of mud over roads from the new town to Sambourne while excavated earth has been dumped.

The village of Studley has been awash with mud from the lorries which have driven through its centre, slopping muck onto the roads.

Councillor Doug Wells said the village looked like a landslide over the weekend.

A British Leyland spokesman said the contractors were responsible for any mess on that day but they had 'put pressure' on the firm to ensure no more mess was made.
