WORCESTER music fans could be seeing red at the end of the week when a top pop star's coat is sold at auction in aid of Childline.

The full-length red leather coat was worn by H from chart topping group Steps, currently in the charts with the song Chain Reaction.

The distinctive coat, which is featured in many of the group's promotional videos and photographs, has also been signed by the rest of the group.

But Shauna Kent, organising the event with her husband Eric who works for the charity, said the coat was just one of many unusual items on offer during the sale, which takes place at Worcester's Fownes Hotel on Friday, November 2.

"I really am quite loathe to let the coat go," she said.

"But there is also a number of other brilliant items.

"We have a signed poster by Bee Gee Barry Gibb, which is from his own personal collection, and a guest ticket for a recording of the show So Graham Norton.

"That is really special because after the show the ticket holder will be entertained by the star and introduced to the celebrities on his show."

During the sale, 40 items will be auctioned off by Jeremy Spake who shot to fame on BBC's docusoap Airport.

Other items include signed photographs of Sir Michael Caine, signed books by Jeremy Clarkson and Sir Paul McCartney, as well as a signed tie by Angus Deayton.

There will also be one of the five cricket bats signed during this year's Ashes Tour by the Australian cricket team, a British official Olympic sweatshirt donated by Sally Gunnell and signed material by Lennox Lewis, Tim Henman, Sting and Kylie Minogue.

"Many stars support Childline, which is why we were able to get so many excellent items for sale," added Mrs Kent. "But we can't keep asking the stars for donations so this is not likely to be repeated for a long time."

The event starts at 7.30pm. For more details contact Mrs Kent on 01299 878502 or Childline on 01562 68889.
