AMBITIOUS proposals to make Droitwich Spa a greener place to live will feature in a new exhibition.

Country parks, woodlands and footpaths could be created to form a "green necklace" around the town.

The Droitwich Spa Civic Society is showcasing draft proposals at the town's library, in Victoria Square, for two weeks, starting on Monday November 12.

Blueprints include a circular path around the town and country parks at Yew Tree Hill and Hampton Lovett.

The society wants proposals to be considered in parallel with plans for commercial, industrial and housing development.

Group vice-chairman Stuart Haywood has been liaising with various bodies to promote the plans.

He said: "They are intended to ensure environmental and recreational issues are given equal weight with developers' ideas for the use of land on the outskirts of Droitwich.

"A copy of our initial proposals has already been submitted to Wychavon District Council. We are now testing support for these ideas, and refining and improving suggestions to ensure they command considerable public approval."

The civic society has been running since 1974 and boasts around 400 members. It aims to make Droitwich a better place to live while maintaining the town's character.
