DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a man who attempted to break up a fight were back on the streets of Evesham in the early hours today.

More than 20 officers took part in the check in the town's High Street, starting late last night - exactly one week after the fatal incident.

They questioned revellers in an attempt to find witnesses to the incident which led to the death of Sorren Prosser.

The 26-year-old, of Cornmill, Elmley Castle, was punched and hit in the head several times in a street scuffle. His life support machine was turned off on Thursday.

The fight, thought to involve a number of people, started between 1.30am and 2am on Saturday, October 6 at Bodrum Kebab House.

Several groups were around in the area, with many people visiting the take-away shop from Marilyn's club and other late night bars.

Mr Prosser was with friends and had visited several pubs in the area before finishing in the Green Dragon.

He then made his way from the late licence bar in Oat Street to the corner take away.

The trouble is thought to have started in the kebab house when two youths began fighting. Mr Prosser attempted to split them up and the fight spilled into the street where another two incidents were reported.

Three people have already appeared at Droitwich Magistrates Court, charged with offences related to the late-night incident.

Richard Parker, aged 22, was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. Marcus Raggett, 23, was charged with assault and affray, and a 17-year old girl, who cannot be named, was charged with grevious bodily harm with intent.

The charges relate to several victims.

All three defendants are fairground workers for Verdanti, giving an address in Morton Valence, Quedgeley in Gloucester.

A fourth person, a man, was arrested on Thursday and is helping police with their inquiries.

Despite the charges, police said they were keeping an open mind about the full sequence of events and whether any further people would be charged.

"We're still looking for witnesses to come forward, because tragically the person who knew the truth behind the events is know longer with us," said Det Insp Dave Bartlett.

Officers are especially appealing to other fairground workers who were in the town last weekend.

The fair has since moved on to Tewkesbury in Gloucester, before visiting the West Midlands.
