UPTON Ladies hockey team played their first league match in Birmingham against Bournville.
Sally Loynes quickly scored the opening goal for Upton; coolly slotting the ball past the Bournville keeper, who had kicked the ball directly to her.
BOURNVILLE 3rds 1, UPTON 4
Bournville tried to push up but Trudy Warner cleared the ball from the back, to Laura Smith, Janet Goodier putting in the final cross enabling Vikki Atkinson to score.
Bev Ingram scored Upton's third picking up a pass from Jacky Farley and belting the ball home.
Bournville struck back in the second half, some fine play giving the Upton keeper Jenny Parkes no chance. Bournville kept putting Upton under pressure but close marking by Anetta Sherwood reduced their options as did some excellent tackling by Lucy Guilding.
Martha Recordon worked tirelessly in the midfield and thoroughly deserved the final goal of the game giving Upton a 4-1 win.
Player of the Match: Martha Recordon.
