MOTOCROSS ace Owen Delaney has become the first ever English rider to win the southern Dutch series since it started in the 60's.
Due to foot and mouth restrictions in this country, Owen, aged 18, has been racing in the 'Open Zeeus Championship' all year in Holland on a 2001, 125cc Suzuki.
He has raced on five different circuits, most of which are very deep sand, against 48 Dutch and Belgium riders.
After a difficult start getting used to the very different conditions, the Malvern rider improved as the season progressed and gradually moved up the field as he got used to very tough conditions.
He took the lead in the series at round four making him the first English rider to lead the series since it started in the 60's.
The final round was held on September 29 at the 'Axel' track in very wet conditions. Due to an electrical problem on his race bike, Owen rode his standard Suzuki and finished 6th and 9th to win the championship by two points.
Final result: 1st Owen Delaney, 2nd Jurgen V.Ham, 3rd Freddy Blaas
4th Nicky Huiszoon.
As well as the Dutch series Owen has been competing in the British
Championship and the under 21 series.
Owen is sponsored by a local forklift company MSM/DRH Limited.
