FOR the second week running controversy surrounded The Bell Inn 98, as they had to switch venues for their eagerly awaited clash with Fromes Hill at the last minute as the referee refused to play on what appeared to both sides to be an excellent conditioned pitch at Bosbury.

BELL INN 98 4, FROMES HILL 2

It is thanks to Fromes Hill that the match was played at all as they hurriedly got their pitch in a playable state, which met up to the strict guidelines set down by the referee.

Typically the game started at a furious pace with both sides looking to gain the early advantage, but it was Tony Reynolds who grabbed his 12th goal of the season with a 45-yard lob after 19 minutes to open the scoring for the Bell.

Two minutes later Fromes Hill equalized as James Howard dribbled past Luke Ledbury in the Bell goal.

Tony Evans, who was yet again inspirational in midfield scored what was to become the champagne moment of the day on the stroke of half time as he blasted in from 25 yards.

Fromes equalised after just one minute of the second half, but with the game drifting towards a draw up popped Leighton Thomas from centre back to slide the ball into the net after a massive scramble. This being his first ever goal in senior football.

This goal demoralised Fromes Hill who shortly afterwards had Andy Brimmel sent off for dissent, and five minutes later Dave Beech popped up unmarked to blast in his fourth goal in as many games to give the Bell their fourth win of the season, and keeping them in third place.

Man of the Match was Luke Ledbury after a superb display in the Bell goal.

On Sunday the Bell Inn '98 will be hosting Kempsey United in a much awaited rematch, this time in the Senior Cup

Players should meet at the Changing Rooms at 10.02am.
