NEWTOWN kicked down the slope in the first half of this Mercian Elgar U15's League match and played neat controlled football, but couldn't break down a hard working Evesham back four.

NEWTOWN SPORTS 1, EVESHAM UNITED 0

Evesham came more into the game and Newtown were guilty of giving the ball away too easily. Goalkeeper Andy Cullen made a fine save minutes before half time.

Newtown kicking up the slope started the half well creating a number of chances but couldn't score. With 50 minutes gone Newtown sent on Ben Pearson and within minutes he scored a well taken header.

Newtown's back four of Rob Tyler, Chris Hopwood, Kris Walker and Edd Gallagher were excellent as a unit, aided by goalkeeper Andy Cullen. Newtown held on for three well earned points.

BROCKHAMPTON 1, WELLAND 4

THIS Mercian Elgar Junior U13 game, played in driving rain, saw an outstanding team show and featured an excellent individual performance from Richard Pitt.

Last week Russell Alderson scored a fine hat-trick but Richard went one better scoring all of Wellands goals in this best performance of the season so far.

The opening goal came in the second minute with a scorching drive into the top corner and the next three came at regular intervals throughout the first half. Brockhampton are one of the better teams and after the interval they took the game to Welland. With Hugh D'arcy restored to left back and Chris Wheeler having his first game in goal the defence battled to keep the lead conceding just one goal half way through the second period.

The boys really appreciated the huge travelling support in the worst conditions that this team had ever played in. Man of the match was Richard Pitt

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 1,

LYPPARD RANGERS JUNIORS 0

LYPPARD Rangers visited Sling Lane in appalling conditions in this Mercian Elgar U13's League encounter.

With both sides not giving an inch early on, chances were minimal. With Wanderers stepping up a gear goal chances were now materialising and they opened the scoring on 23 minutes, Luke Arnold crashing home from close range after great approach work from Shaun Carrey and Michael Dicapita. The home defence of Liam Harford, Matt Bayer and Craig Richards kept any danger at bay.

A half time substitution saw the return of Gareth Atkinson replacing the injured Tom Chadney in midfield. Influential midfielders Bruce Rogers and Matt Hopwood kept Wanderers on top but they could not add to the tally against a resolute Lyppard side.

NEWTOWN SPORTS 6,

BREDON COLTS JUNIORS 1

NEWTOWN Sports entertained Bredon in this Mercian Elgar Under 13's Junior League fixture in the most appalling weather with heavy rain and strong winds.

Newtown started slowly and good defending from Craig Philpotts and Mathew Lakey prevented Bredon from opening the scoring. David Reynolds scored Newtown's first after the ball had hit the bar then bounced off several players before he placed the ball into the net. Bredon equalised when a Newtown defender headed into his own goal. Newtown then turned up the tempo and Lee Jenkins went close before John Davies scored his first of two just before half time.

Bredon's central players towered over Newtown's so Newtown changed their play and kept the ball low and reaped the dividends. David Reynolds seemed to thrive on playing against such strong players and took knock after knock but still scored three goals in the second period. The fourth came when he rounded two or three defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot.

Man of the Match: John Davies.

WELLAND 4, WORCESTER RANGERS 0

IN this Mercian Elgar U12's League game Welland continued to improve, dominating play from the kick off.

In howling wind and rain both teams valiantly fought the elements to make this an exciting match.

A great ball from Welland's midfield to Daniel Griffiths, who made no mistake in hitting the back of the net within three minutes. At 15 minutes Ashley Shouler had one touch of the ball, took one look at goal and struck home a fantastic goal. Worcester Rangers keeper made some bold saves and play was not all one sided, however Richard Phelps dominated Welland's defence and stopped any forward play, assisted by John White who made several amazing runs to help out.

In the second half goals by Daniel Griffiths and the hard working Richard Tuck sealed this home victory.

Man of the Match was Welland's Ben Marks.

WESTBURY BOYS 1,

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 5

WANDERERS had a tough struggle against a determined Westbury team in this Mercian Elgar Under 12's Junior League fixture played in foul weather conditions.

Wanderers had to defend grimly through much of the first half but a rare break out inspired by Luke Butler and Chris Bowen found Ryan Mansbridge unmarked and a powerful left footed drive put them ahead. Westbury fought back immediately and a rare moment of indecision gave Wanderers' goalie Chris Styles no chance to stop the equaliser. Just before half time Paul Jordan raced ahead of the cover and an excellent shot put Wanderers ahead again.

In the second half with the elements behind them Wanderers attacked relentlessly. Good play by Danny Stimson and excellent work on the left wing by James Lush gave Jack Higgs the chance to score with a great header. Big Ollie Mason, back from injury, controlled the middle of the field and the dynamic duo of Calum Campbell and Max White caused mayhem in the Westbury defence and created opportunities for more goals from Ryan Mansbridge and James Lush.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS U11s 1, MCL CLAINES 3

NEWTOWN Juniors lost this Mercian Elgar Under 11's Junior League match to Claines but should have won.

Newtown started brighter peppering the Claines goal with several shots from Craig Preece and Lee Gittins. The Claines goal keeper keeping his team in the game with some fine saves and good handling.

In the second half Juniors continued to dominate the game and took the lead when Craig Preece took the ball past the last defender and shot into the corner of the net. After that Juniors were a completely different team, with Claines taking the upper hand creating and scoring three good goals to kill of the Juniors.

Lee Mason broke the deadlock midway through the second half playing through the centre firing the ball into the left corner. MALVERN WANDERERS U11S 1,

NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS 6

NEWTOWN Sports Colts played a friendly against Malvern Wanderers at Malvern Town's ground.

On a blustery day with many heavy showers, it was a credit to both teams that they tried to play attractive football. Wesley Powell opened the scoring for the Colts straight from the kick-off. Other goals from Jacob Buckle and Jamie Caffull quickly followed, as the Colts played some great passing football.

Louis Jones executed a powerfully taken penalty after Tom Hale had been fouled, and Baz Edwards completed the first-half scoring with another well taken goal.

In the second-half the Colts increased their lead when Jacob Buckle grabbed his second. The Wanderers got a consolation goal late on.

The Colts, who are sponsored by Cotteswold Dairies, were grateful to the Wanderers for playing the friendly.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 5, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS 0

MALVERN Town Wanderers extra years experience of playing together in league football proved decisive when they ended their club mates unbeaten start to the Mercian Elgar U10's Junior League season on Saturday.

In an even first half both teams had chances but the deadlock was not broken until just before half time when Josh Asquith converted a cross from Jack Bottomley.

In the second half a good move involving Adam Mayo and Bobs Mackichan set up Alex Wren to score Wanderers' second goal. Minutes later Alex Wren at full stretch scored again before Josh Asquith added a well taken fourth goal. The Colts refused to surrender and Jack Daniels and Jordan Richards worked tirelessly but Wanderers experience prevailed however when Douglas Howie scored their final goal of the match.

NEWTOWN SPORTS 4,

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 2

NEWTOWN Sports Boys maintained their impressive start to the Mercian Elgar U9's Junior League season with this convincing win over Malvern Town Wanderers.

Newtown were on top of their game from the off with Matt Wren threatening the Wanderers' goal but it was Adam Loader who opened the scoring when he latched onto Wren's astute pass and coolly finished. Wanderers fought back with spells of concerted pressure but the Newtown back line led by Callum Rock aided by Carlen and Crews resisted their advances. Matt Turner then doubled Newtown's lead when his spin and shot found the bottom corner. Newtown then ended the half on a high when Chris Parker saw his corner go in off the post.

Newtown continued to press; they were rewarded when Turner easily slotted home. Wanderers' never gave up and pulled a goal back when Morton's clearance was intercepted and the ball was promptly fired into the net. Wanderers still pressed and on the stroke of full time they notched a second from a goal mouth melee.

Man of the Match: Matt Turner.
