A NEW season of six films will be show on Wednesday nights at Malvern Theatres, following the success of previous screenings.

Cinema manager Amy Johnson said the showing of a selection of foreign and "art-house" movies had proved popular with local audiences.

"People appreciate a greater range of films to choose from and so far it has gone absolutely brilliantly," she said.

Recent screenings have included Amores Perros, Together and Casino. Now the new season promises a further variety of cinematic delights.

It opens on Wednesday, October 31, with Code Unknown (12), which stars Juliette Binoche in an examination of a diverse set of characters on a Paris street.

A One and A Two (15) is a look at life in a Taiwanese family, while Intimacy (18), starring Kerry Fox and Mark Rylance, is a powerful portrait of the human search for completeness, controversial for the explicitness of its sexual scenes.

Merci Pour Le Chocolat (PG) is the latest film from French master director Claude Chabrol, a dark and intriguing psychological thriller starring Isabel Huppert, and The Iron Ladies (15), from Thailand, is based on the true story of a basketball team of drag queens.

Finishing up the series on Wednesday, December 5, is Lagaan (PG), set in the India of 1893, where the outcome of a cricket match between British occupiers and the natives will determine the local land tax.
