A CALL to floodlight the town centre was made by Malvern's Chamber of Commerce 50 years ago.
"Malvern could be made additionally beautiful by concealed lighting in parks and streets, and by the floodlighting of its principal buildings," said the chamber, in a report in the Malvern Gazette of October 12, 1951.
One member, C H L Thompson, said he motored over large areas and when he came back to Malvern it was like entering a dark and dull place.
Another, C R Hewer, said the council should floodlight the Priory on special occasions, and also Belle Vue island.
Also suggested was the floodlighting of other churches, the Abbey Gateway and Priory Park.
