WORCESTER City goalscoring legend Harry Knowles will be the club's guest of honour for their third qualifying round FA Cup clash at St Blazey tomorrow (3pm).

The St George's Lane stalwart, who plundered 146 goals in 200 matches between 1956 and 1962, was a key member of the City side that famously knocked Liverpool out in the third round of the Cup in 1959.

The 69-year-old now lives in Penzance and still retains a deep affection for the club.

"The first thing I do when I get the paper is to look how Worcester have got on and in fact I'm more interested in them than Manchester United," he said.

"I'm looking forward to seeing them play and meeting the directors and having a chat."

Knowles also had a special mention for Mark Owen who scored his 100th goal for the club in the last round of the FA Cup against Barnstaple Town and became the ninth player in Worcester's history to chalk up the magic ton.

"Anybody who scores goals these days is worth their weight in goal and to get 100 is a great achievement," he said.

Worcester, who hope to have defender Martin Weir and striker Phil Stant fit, face a stern test against the reigning South-Western League champions, who have started this season with 10 wins out of 10 including a goal difference of plus 33 and 43 goals. They also knocked out Dr Martens Western Division side Chippenham in the last round.

England goalkeeper Nigel Martyn started his career at the club, and City midfielder Darren Middleton admits the name St Blazey does not roll off the tongue but says their record speaks for itself.

"They're unbeaten and averaging four goals a game so they are really brimming with confidence," he said.

"It's a long trip for us but we have to be professional in our outlook, give them respect but not too much."

The magic of the FA Cup is still important in the hearts of the City players according to Middleton and said they dreamed of landing a big home clash with one a Football League side.

"It is still the biggest thing for many of us because we are not playing in competitions like the Champions League and for clubs like us it is a dream to draw one of the big clubs, maybe even a Wolves, Villa or Walsall.

"If we can get through this round we are a step further to making that come true."
