A MALVERN scientist has been given an important award by the Royal Photographic Society for his work on thermal imaging.
Professor Tom Elliott was due to be given the society's Progress Medal at an awards ceremony in London last night (Thursday).
The medal is given to those who have made important advances in the scientific or technological development of photography.
Professor Elliott was chief scientist of the electronic sector at DERA (now QinetiQ) until his retirement in January 1999.
He is now a consultant with his own company and a part-time professor at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
In 1992, Professor Elliott was awarded the MacRobert Award from the Fellowship of Engineering for his part in the development of a thermal imaging system for pilots.
