AN ultimatum has been issued to people in Upton to get involved if they want the town to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Peter Pantling, who chaired a meeting of interested groups last Thursday, said: "We've called another meeting in order to form a steering committee.

"If people don't attend, there won't be any jubilee celebrations in Upton. It's as simple as that.

"The celebrations are not just for people from Upton but also for those from surrounding areas like Welland and Hanley."

Around ten people attended last week's meeting as representatives of various clubs, societies and associations.

Among the ways suggested to mark the occasion were a parade through the town, the election of a Jubilee Queen and a knobbly knees competition.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 18, at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall.
