Momentum is gathering for West Malvern Cricket Club's auction of promises, gifts and cricket memorabilia at Lyttelton Well on November 30. Already some 80 lots have been promised and a target of 100 now looks realistic. Among the star lots pledged to date are a holiday in France for four people, with all flights; four tickets to the Aston Villa-Spurs football match on December 29; and four tickets to a Warwickshire cricket match at Edgbaston next season. Cricket memorabilia include bats autographed by Surrey, Worcestershire and Zimbabwe teams, as well as autographed photographs including one donated by former Worcest-ershire captain Phil Neale. Sparing no expense, the club has engaged local auctioneer Philip Serrell - who has kindly donated his services to regulate the bidding! The money raised from the event will be used towards improved facilities in the pavilion at the club's Mathon Court ground including installing showers and increasing the covered area to enable teas to be served out of the weather. The deadline for gifts and promises is October 31; anyone with anything to offer should ring Bob or Valerie Blackbourn on 01684 564893.

Although it is strictly outside the parish, many West Malvern residents will be interested to learn that Orange PCS Ltd is to appeal against the refusal by Herefordshire Council earlier this year of planning permission for a 25-metre (80ft) telecommunications 'tree mast' and associated equipment in the middle of the row of Scots Pine trees at Croft Farm, which is prominent in the view from many parts of the village and Hills. The company's statement and other documents are available to inspecte at the planning office at Leominster. The appeal will be decided on the basis of written representations and a site visit by the inspector - there will be no public hearing, but comments on the original application will be given to the inspector.

Any new representations, additional comments or amendments have to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol by November 13. Details available from parish clerk Catherine Campbell on 575282.
