A MURDER probe has been launched after a man who tried to break-up a late-night scuffle died in hospital.

Sorren Prosser died at 10.45am yesterday at Worcester Royal Infirmary from injuries received during the early hours of Saturday, October 6.

The 26-year-old, of Cornmill, Elmley Castle, near Pershore, was assaulted after intervening in the fight, in Evesham High Street.

"This tragedy will rock a community which is unused to violence of this type," said Det Insp Dave Bartlett, one of the investigating officers.

"This is a tragic death of a young man who lost his life because he tried to calm down a violent situation,"

"There were a lot or people in the area at the time, and it's vital we speak to anyone who witnessed the events leading up to this tragic incident.

"I'm also keen to hear from fairground workers who've been in Evesham until recently, but have now moved on to other parts of the Midlands and Gloucestershire."

Four people were arrested after the incident, and three - two men, aged 23 and 22, and a 17-year-old girl - appeared in court on Tuesday charged in relation to it.

A fifth person, a man, was arrested yesterday morning and was being quizzed by police today.

Detectives now hope an "anniversary check" - from 11pm tonight and into the early hours of tomorrow morning - will bring in more information about the murder.

A major incident room has also been set up at Worcester's Castle Street station and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"If you have any information about the events of the evening of Friday, October 5, and the early hours of Saturday morning, however insignificant it may seem, please contact us on 01905 723888," said Det Insp Bartlett.

"Your information could help detect the murder of a young man."

Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.

Calls to Crimestoppers may result in a reward if a person is charged or arrested in connection with the murder

investigation.
